Special Olympics International, established in 1968 by Mrs. Eunice Kennedy SHRIVER, in the past 40 years has served around 4 million athletes from some 170 countries/regions all over the world.

With proper instruction and encouragement, people with intellectual disability are able to take part in individual skills and team sports from which they can learn, enjoy and benefit socially and spiritually. Similarly, Special Olympics provides continuous opportunities for athletes to realize their potential, develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy and friendship through different kinds of sports. Alternatively, participating in Special Olympics not only strengthens family ties, but also reinforces the public's understanding and respect to the intellectually disabled.
