The sports chief congratulated the Hong Kong Special Olympics representatives on Monday for their results at the Special Olympic World Summer Games where they won a total of 39 golds, 25 silvers, and 11 bronze medals.
Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Kevin Yeung Yun-hung stated that all the athletes proved their abilities in the event, using their techniques and willpower to achieve great and irrefutable results.
Their excellent results also showcased Hong Kong’s ability to rise and face challenges, and he hoped that the athletes could continue to shine brightly in the future.
The 2023 edition of the Special Olympics World Summer Games was held in Berlin from June 17 to June 25, with Hong Kong sending out 81 representatives to participate in 13 events such as athletics, basketball, futsal, swimming, etc.
The Special Olympic World Games are the largest sporting event for people with intellectual disabilities and the athletes are separated by ability level so that all athletes can have a fair chance at winning an event.
