Founded by a group of American law enforcement officers, Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics is a fund-raising event for the sports development of people with intellectual disabilities. Since 1989, Special Olympics Hong Kong has cooperated with disciplinary departments including Hong Kong Police Force, Immigration Department, Customs and Excise Department, Hong Kong Correctional Services, Fire Services Department, Government Flying Service and Independent Commission Against Corruption, together with Hong Kong, China Sports Association for Persons with Intellectual Disability to organize the event and raise fund. All fund raised is poured in supporting athletes taking part in the Special Olympics World Games, Special Olympics East Asia competitions and local training.
